Notes From the Country

Happy St Nicholas Day. Here is a snippet of Afternoon Tea today. Dundee Cake.

This tradition came to our home by way of Tasha Tudor. I love Tasha. She was a children's book author and illustrator, and a talented artist. She raised four children, and lived her life as someone would have in the 1830's for the most part while at home, down to the handmade 1800's gowns she wore everyday. She raised goats, chickens, loved corgis, baked, gardened, and painted on a grand scale. She has been an inspiration to (my country self) for many years.

She has a wonderful cookbook aptly named, "The Tasha Tudor Cookbook" and she has a recipe for Dundee cake which she always made for St Nicholas Day tea. The cake is similar to a fruit cake - but better.
